Toastmasters Journey
My Toastmasters journey began 19 years ago when I chartered my home club, BCIS Toastmasters in Sri Lanka, and served as its Charter President under District 82. Since then, I’ve held every elected district officer role and seven additional supportive roles at the district level. As District Director in 2016–2017, I, with my team, had the privilege of leading District 82 to be No. 3 in world ranking, achieving a record-breaking 98% Distinguished Club Program (DCP) score—the highest ever for our district.
For 17 consecutive years, Toastmasters has been a transformative journey for me as a leader, helping me grow as a leader grounded in the organization’s Core Values and the true spirit of servant leadership.
I also had the honor of serving as Region 13 Advisor for two consecutive terms (2020–2022), supporting 10 districts during the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. My contributions extended to global committees, including the Region Advisor Handbook Revision (2022), the District Strategies Guidebook (2022), and the Region Advisor Selection Committee (2023).
In 2023, I was nominated as the International Director Candidate for Region 13—an opportunity that allowed me to engage with 90 District Trios, 16 Board Members, 16 Past International Presidents, and 10 Past International Directors, deepening my understanding of Toastmasters’ global mission, cultural diversity, and strategic direction.
Volunteer Leadership
With over two decades of experience leading strategic initiatives across both corporate and non-profit sectors beyond Toastmasters, I bring a proven track record of impactful leadership.
As the Founder and Charter President of the Pest Managers Association of Sri Lanka, I was instrumental in establishing the association, setting industry standards, and developing comprehensive SOPs, policies, and protocols.
Additionally, my role on the Advisory Board of a Community Welfare Association of a gated community of 1,210 homes allowed me to design and implement sustainable strategies that addressed the evolving needs of its residents.
Family Foundation
As the only child of two dedicated government servants, my father, a Post Master, and my mother, a Vice Principal and English-trained teacher, I am deeply grateful for the education, discipline, freedom, and guidance they provided. I first learned the essence of servant leadership from my mother, who served as a Commissioner of the Girl Guide Association of Sri Lanka.
My greatest source of strength has been my family—my wife, twin son, and daughter, who have wholeheartedly supported my Toastmasters journey, often sacrificing precious time together, allowing me to pursue my passion. My son is an Architect, and my daughter has recently completed her MBA in Vancouver, holds a degree in International Business.
Both my wife, a secretary at the Airport & Aviation Services of Sri Lanka, and I will be retiring by October 2025. With this transition, I will be able to dedicate myself fully to the demands of serving as an International Director—embracing a new chapter of life in serving globally beyond the region, with commitment and purpose.
